Watching TK (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos’ (Rafael Silva) relationship evolve in 9-1-1: Lone Star has been one of the greatest joys of watching the series.
Their relationship got off to a rocky start as they dealt with personal issues. However, they were always destined to be together, and at the end of Season 4, they got married.
Season 5 is poised to be their season as they navigate this new stage of their lives as husbands.
They must figure out how what they want for their relationship and if they want to expand their family.
The beloved couple has problems on the horizon as Carlos deals with losing his dad under shady circumstances.
Being first responders, problems are always around the corner, something TK knows very well after nearly dying.
But all these threats pale compared to the major problem on the horizon for 9-1-1: Lone Star.
‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Might Be Ending
A report by Deadline teases the end of the adored series, and every development spells a bleak future for the show.
The report states that fans won’t see Grace Ryder anymore going into Season 5, as Sierra McClain departed the series before filming for the season began.
The rest of the cast is actively looking for new jobs, as the end seems probable, and FOX has not made a renewal decision yet.
Filming will conclude in the second week of July 2024, and most of the cast will begin to say goodbye to the series that launched most of their careers.
The reason for the series’ end comes from an unlikely place. While man shows get canceled for underperforming, 9-1-1: Lone Star has remained steady.
The economics of making TV shows has changed in the past few years, and the reality is now catching up with studios.
To that end, many have scaled down the number of scripted shows they produce, while others have stopped producing them altogether.
FOX has been making changes across the board, so 9-1-1 moved from the network to ABC after they passed on the seventh season.
Going into the fifth season, the cast of 9-1-1: Lone Star tried to negotiate for a pay rise two times, but the network would not play ball.
Given the cost of production and the rising cast remuneration as the show progresses, FOX won’t likely be able to afford it.
Even if the show ends, we’ll always remain grateful for the stories it has afforded us.
Seeing two queer leading men in a broadcast show is not common right now, and it was much less so when the show started.
It has brought us tears and joy to see TK and Carlos go through all the growing pains of the relationship before walking down the aisle and saying, “I do.”
