Buck (Oliver Stark) is like the 118’s golden retriever, who brings them so much joy that they would do anything to protect him. In 9-1-1 Season 7, Buck was revealed to be queer.
While it might have seemed like it came out of nowhere, those paying little attention could tell that it did not.
In fact, Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) shared a knowing gesture when everyone learned that Buck was dating a man.
No one made that big of a fuss about it, but given Tommy’s (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) shady history with the 118, it is only fair that someone was concerned.
A new look into the show from a scene that did not make the final cut puts Tommy on Hen and Karen’s hot seat as they grill him about his intentions with Buck.
As the experienced queers on the show, the sapphic couple is the appropriate duo to ask Tommy what he wants with their baby queer.
‘9-1-1’ Has Not Changed Buck Even With His New Romantic Partner
The scene occurs during the medal ceremony in 9-1-1 Season 7, Episode 9. Everyone mingles when the official part of the event ends, and while grabbing a piece of cake, Tommy finds himself cornered by Hen and Karen.
Hen: So, where are you going with this?
The question catches Tommy by surprise, and he initially thinks they’re talking about the piece of cake on the plate in his hand.
Tommy: Um, to my table. So I can eat it?
He responds in a matter-of-fact tone, but Henren is not talking about the cake.
The scene is highly comical, given the characters’ facial expressions and the back-and-forth. Every question has a double-ended meaning.
It might also be Tommy’s attempt to avoid discussing this new relationship since he doesn’t know how Buck would react.
He tries to sass his way out of the conversation by deflecting, but Henren is not letting go that easily.
Hen: We’re talking about your intentions.
Karen: Are they honorable?
Tommy realizes they are serious and responds.
Tommy: We’re taking it slow. In fact, I’m letting him set the pace, and I’m just trying to keep up.
He walks away and leaves Henren smiling in understanding.
While Buck’s relationship with Tommy is his first one with a man, Buck has always been sex-positive, something Tommy has had to learn and adapt to quickly.
A scene in the season finale finds Buck testing the limits of Tommy’s freak, and he rises up to the occasion.
Every scene with Buck and Tommy continues to prove that they’re perfect for each other, and as Season 8 approaches, the show should explore them more.
Given the fact that Buck has admitted to being very into checking out guys with nice asses, a cake joke would have worked great here.
9-1-1 Season 8 premieres this fall.
