It’s official: 9-1-1: Lone Star will end with Season 5.

It’s bitter-sweet because it feels like finally, after years of waiting, we get more Tarlos (and married Tarlos, for that matter), but then it disappears.

The upcoming season finds the show focusing more on existing characters. Carlos and TK get bigger arcs with the departure of cast member Sierra McClain.

These arcs significantly affect their marriage, which has just begun.

Season 5 finds Carlos shifting careers as he becomes a Texas Ranger. The obvious is that he’s following in his father’s footsteps.

In Season 4, however, Carlos’ father was killed, and it messed him up big time. This career change is fueled by his desire to find Gabriel’s killers.

He joins the Rangers and gets a new work partner with whom he gels well.

The problem is that he becomes obsessed with solving his father’s murder, causing friction with his husband.

TK’s Half-Brother Visits

TK’s mother had a son before she died. The kid was named Jonah, and he stayed with his father, Enzo.

9-1-1: Lone Star has not explored that relationship since Gwen died, but that will change in the upcoming season.

Jonah visits TK when the latter turns thirty, and it is teased that this visit will change TK and Carlos’s lives.

What news he comes bearing is unconfirmed, but if it’s that monumental, then something is seriously wrong.

Theorizing here, it seems as if Jonah’s father cannot take care of him anymore, and he needs a parent. Not to forget that the kid is barely five years old, so he might be accompanied by authorities.

Carlos and TK have not talked about having kids save for TK telling Carlos he would be a good dad.

Is Jonah an avenue for expanding the Reyes-Strand family?

If that’s the case, this might strain the marriage since Carlos is highly distracted.

TK cannot let his brother go into the foster care system, and few things are worse than pulling all the weight in a marriage.

Ronen Rubinstein’s comments about the couple’s storyline in the upcoming season seem justified.

“I know it’s kind of impossible to fathom, but I think this is the biggest rollercoaster they’re going to go through in five years. It’s kind of hard to top everything they’ve been through, but trust me, they do,” he had previously told TooFab.

If TK is left to deal with raising Jonah and his pet bearded dragon, Lou (Carlos said he’d never touch the thing), in addition to his job, it seems like a lot.

It will also be extra annoying when Carlos seems to be having the time of his life working Ranger cases with the new partner to the point where showrunner Rashid Raisani is lobbying for a spinoff.

The future seems bleak for Tarlos, but they’ve been through a lot together, and they will weather this. If the photo shared by TV Line is any indicator, they will always find their way into each other’s arms.

9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5, September 23 on Fox.
