England, 1920s. A gay novelist and his psychiatric nurse form an unlikely friendship over a series of doctor-prescribed ‘dates.’ He tells her the story of his relationship with an old friend which spiraled out of control when they turned to a risky procedure to cure themselves of their feelings for one another.
Lilies Not for Me is directed by Will Seefried in his directorial debut.
It stars Fionn O’Shea (Handsome Devil), Robert Aramayo (The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power), Erin Kellyman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Jodi Balfour (Ted Lasso), and Louis Hofmann (Center Of My World).
‘Lilies Not for Me’ Trailer
In the video above, Owen (O’Shea) and Phillip (Aramayo) are two young men who fall in deep, consuming love.
Their love story would last forever in another time and place as they enjoy their days in romantic seclusion in an idyllic coastal village.
However, Phillip is not convinced that this is what life should be like. A victim of a lifetime of homophobia, he seeks a cure for his homosexuality and drags Owen with him.
In a different time and place, Owen meets Nurse Dorothy (Kellyman) and recounts to her the depths they went to cure themselves of their affliction.
Phillip: “We are physically ill, Owen. This desire we feel is not of the mind; it’s of our bodies.
However, Owen experiences different types of relationships, including a healthy one with Charles (Hoffman) and another with his wife (Balfour).
“The story is inspired by a part of queer history that not many people know about, but it’s shocking how relevant it still is today,” Willfried told Variety. “The film will move people to reclaim the narratives that haunt them and remember that self-love is a revolutionary act.”
