The lines were drawn. It was us on one side and Hollyoaks on the other.
The war for Lucas (Oscar Curtis) and Dillon’s (Nathaniel Dass) happiness has been going on for a while now, with team #HayRay on one side and Hollyoaks on the other. Happy to report that the war is won. We won the war.
In the May 16 episode, Lucas and Dillon finally kiss after a long time with a love story that has seen ups and downs.
The buildup to this has been nerve-wracking, with the potential of the young couple never seeing the light of day becoming more prominent with each passing episode.
From Carter’s attempt to convert Lucas straight to Lucas repeatedly abusing Dillon to the point of a physical attack, it seemed like the young lovers were never meant to be.
But all’s well that ends well. Whatever didn’t kill them made them stronger. The end justifies the means. There are probably several ways to say it’s all good, but you get the point now.
The First Kiss
To be honest, nothing in this world could steal the joy of that first kiss from us or the couple.
Hollyoaks made the moment sappy and beautiful and couldn’t have gone much better.
Dillon looked gorgeous in one of his signature sweaters and baggy pants, while Lucas looked similarly dashing in his school uniform. Looking at them, one sometimes wonders how two completely different people could be so perfect for each other.
Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me” played in the background, and Lucas would never miss a chance to poke light fun at Dillon’s taste in things. The joke’s on you, mister because Dillon’s your taste.
Lucas and Dillon work because they don’t hide themselves from each other. And they accept the true nature of the other person.
Lucas was ready to move on and become a new person, but Dillon reminded him that the old Lucas was pretty special, too, and there was a reason he fell in love with him.
Dillon: Turns out there are loads of things about the old Lucas that are pretty special.
Lucas: I don’t deserve you.
Dillon: You do.
I’m sorry but it’s such words of affirmation that would make someone accept a kiss from a boy.
When was Lucas last told: “You’re beautiful”? Dillon has always had him, but Lucas was not going anywhere at that moment. And he didn’t when Dillon went in for the kiss.
The Future
This is the first step in their relationship but a huge step.
Lucas has much growing to do, especially where loving himself is concerned. Being brainwashed by a religious lunatic doesn’t disappear overnight just because the lunatic is no longer present.
Being young, the couple will also have to deal with the problems that life — and Hollyoaks — throws at people their age.
But if one thing’s certain, Lucas and Dillon will support each other through it all.
