When you’re done watching a Julio Torres creation, you undoubtedly can tell it’s a Julio Torres creation. Fantasmas is an upcoming dramedy with all the signs of being a good show by Torres.

HBO released the upcoming series trailer that you can’t tell what to expect even after watching it.

Torres wrote, created, executive produced, directed, and starred in the series, which will debut on June 7 on HBO.

According to the show’s official logline, the six-part series will take viewers through a uniquely Torres-weird odyssey in search of a missing earring.

Writer, director, and comedian Julio Torres spins a fantastical six-part tale of when he lost a gold oyster earring.

In his search to find the precious object, Julio reflects on the offbeat characters he encounters in introspective, often eerie, and always comedic vignettes set in a dreamy, alternate version of New York City.

A kaleidoscope of color and surrealism, Fantasmas weaves together stories of people looking for meaning, purpose, and connection in an increasingly isolating world.

The series also stars Martine Gutierrez as Vanesja, Tomas Matos as Chester, and Joe Rumrill as the voice of Bibo. An impressive number — nearly two dozen — of guest stars join Torres, who plays Julio in the show.

Guest stars will include Bowen Yang and Aidy Bryant from SNL, Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Paul Dano (Batman), Jaboukie Young-White (The Daily Show), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Julia Fox, Joe Rumril, Kate Berlant, Emma Stone, Kim Petras, Ziwe, and Dylan O’Brien.

‘Fantasmas’ Trailer

The trailer begins with Julio at a doctor’s appointment, where he explains something bizarre happening to him.

The next minute or so features several actors in different scenes. It is almost impossible to tell what is happening, but we must wait and see since Julio will interact with several of them in his quest.

Who Is Julio Torres?

Torres is all of the descriptors used previously. He is best known for writing on Saturday Night Live. He created and starred in another HBO comedy, Los Espookys. His latest film, Problemista, has a coveted 88% critics’ score and 84% audience score, a balance many projects crave.

Torres’ creations feature a surreal blend of color, characters, and situations that deliciously absurdly comment on the real world.

Fantasmas promises to follow the same beat when it airs on HBO on Friday, June 7, from 11 PM to 11:30 PM.

New episodes will debut on the network every week and will be available to stream on Max.
