‘The Boyfriend’ Reunion — Shocking Revelations and #DaiShun

Dai Nakai in The Boyfriend S01E08

What did you do when the credits rolled on the final episode of The Boyfriend?

Did it involve some detective work on social media to determine where every cast member from the show wound up? Did it involve some online stalking and hanging on to every little clue?

Hopefully, it didn’t involve leaving some mean comments.

Netflix brings the cast back for a reunion event titled The Boyfriend Night, which streamed on Netflix Japan’s official YouTube page.

The reunion features a question-and-answer session, during which the show’s panelists finally meet the men they had previously watched.

They dive into filming the show and what was going on in the minds of the cast members when they made some decisions that had fans climbing walls while waiting for the next episodes.

The cast members also reveal what they are currently doing, and some bombshells concerning the couples that left together also drop.

There’s Always Something Going On In Someone Else’s Mind

One of the sticking points in the show and in the reunion is the importance of healthy communication.

The cast members talk about their mindsets in some scenes where it appeared like they were being irrational.

Everyone shares their perspective after seeing the show and getting the full picture.

They all appreciate other people’s actions even when they didn’t understand them at the time.

The reunion squashes all the perceived “beef” among the cast members.

This portion takes up a lot of time.

It became clear that you can never judge someone’s actions without speaking to them.

Individuals always have something going on in their minds; the only way you can know what it is is through open communication.

#DaiShun Are Endgame

Dai and Shun’s love story began as soon as Dai saw Shun.

Viewers watched the couple’s highs and lows, and when the show ended, they were one of the two couples to leave together.

The reunion reveals that they are still together, and Dai has already introduced Shun to his friends and family.

Dai’s family loves Shun, and they’ve been living with Dai’s parents for several months.

They are still in love, but it comes with challenges due to their wildly different personalities. Sometimes, they argue, but Dai has never stopped adoring Shun, who can’t win his fight to stay a few centimeters away from Dai.

Japan’s lawmakers should be forced to watch this show and some other gay movies and TV shows from Japan that send a not-so-subtle message that it’s time for marriage equality.

We need these kings married — if that’s what they want.

Kazuto 💔 Alan

The other couple that left together sadly did not make it.

The duo does not reveal why their relationship did not survive, but they remain good friends. Kazuto continues his work in the restaurant.

Since the events in the Green Room, they’ve gone on dates with different people, but they’re not in relationships.

Taeheon

While he did not leave with anyone, Taeheon gained more than other members.

The Boyfriend Night reveals that he has since come out to his parents, and the response was amazing.

Somehow, he’s become more attractive since we last saw him in the show.

He’s gone on several dates, but nothing serious as of yet.

Ikuo

His energy has definitely reduced, which one would hope is not to appease other people.

Since the show came out, Ikuo has also had some attention, but nothing serious yet.

Viewers did not get to learn what he’s passionate about in the show. In the reunion, he reveals that he is passionate about queer issues, especially about people struggling with sexuality.

He continues working.

Ryota

He admits that direct communication was a challenge in the show. He used gestures where getting straight to the point would work best.

Ryota is focused on his modeling career and seems to be killing it from some images of show fashion events he’s modeled on.

He appreciates that the show taught him how to communicate more openly.

Gensei

Well, his legs are still short.

Even if he misread all the signs from Ryota, he’s not missing the signs in his Instagram comments.

He splits his time between Taiwan and Japan, but he has people’s attention worldwide.

Gensei is considering dating foreigners if an opportunity presents itself.

Usak

Currently, chicken breast smoothies, working, and working out are Usak’s areas of concern.

The Green Room was a great experience, but now that it’s over, he’s focused on his go-go boy career, which takes up a lot of his time.

But he finds time to draw some amazing artwork between chicken, work, and lifting.

He gifts the MCs an anime drawing of all of them.

The takeaway from The Boyfriend Night is that the Green Room and other participants improved everyone’s life.

They learned a lot and are better people for it.

Some find love, friendship, community, themselves, and each other. Everyone won.
